NO SMOKING....please?

I have a complaint.
A frustration.
A..."pet peeve"...if you will.

I HATE when I walk out of Wal-mart (or anyplace, for that matter, but today - it was Wal-mart) and walk SMACK! into a cloud of cigarette smoke.

I don't care what other people do with their lives...but how hard is it to step away from the door to finish up? (Not to mention that Utah law prohibits it 25 feet from any entrance to a public place.) Have a little respect for those of us that choose not to huff and puff that crap.

I can't stand the smell of it. I hate the coughing that comes from walking into a cloud of it. And, dang it, I'm a pregnant Mom that does everything to insure a healthy pregnancy. Besides the fact, that even that little exposure can get my daughter's asthma going.

I wish other people would stop and think about how their actions, affect those around them.

Last winter we were waiting for my dad's bus in Park City and some total idiot lit up right next to me while I was holding my little girl. Duh. I tapped him on the shoulder and asked him to go away. He did, after he acted shocked. IDIOT.

KUDOS to you for writing this. I totally agree.

That commercial scares me where that lady says "I'm dying from lung cancer, but I've never smoked a day in my life. I got it from second-hand smoke."

Ugh.

Right there w/ya, girlfriend. Ugh, it's so incredibly rude and disgusting. I mean, can you imagine the horror if I went around farting in people's faces? And that's not even "toxic" to our bodies! :)

I am right there with you.
However I am a much meaner person than you are because I almost always make a comment to them or remind them of the law.
I really makes me mad most (not all) but most smokers are very inconsiderate when they smoke in public.

oh yeah i can't STAND smoke!!

we had our ice cream block party on saturday and one of our ever-so-classy (NOT!) neighbors walked up in her tank top and short shorts smoking on a cigarette. I was dumb founded, i didn't know what to say.

my 10 yr old nephew walked up to her and said, "um we need to you put out your cigarette please. we are a non-smoking family" so she walked out to the curb and put it out...

easy as that. awesome.

I'm with you on this one! TOTALLY irritates me! I agree, they can do what they will with their lives, but please respect me and don't blow that crap in my face!

I've been exposed to second hand smoke all my life. Why am I still alive?

Leeann said...

LOL I LOVE people that crack on my writing, but do it Anonymously.
Glad YOU'RE still alive...go talk to the millions of families missing loved ones.

Or better yet, come spend some time with my daughter, hooked up to her nebulizer, during an asthma attack. It's super fun!

Hey Mr./Mrs. Anoymous...thanks for sharing your point of view. I know I appreciate it, why don't you share that with my Grandpa who died of cancer after smoking all his life, why don't you say that to all the people who now have, these other cancers caused by smoking, including cancers of the stomach, cervix, kidney, and pancreas and acute myeloid leukemia. Yeah. There you go. Stick up for the cancer stick.

That's where I like to pretend I'm the smoking enforcer and inform the person they're too close to the door and they need to MOVE!

What are they going to do? Blow on me?

I'm not downing the one's that don't smoke. God Bless you for not picking up the dirty habit. But have you looked out your front doors lately and seen the air. All the cars and trucks and plants that give off deadly fumes, why doesn't anyone say anything about that. It's not just the smokers. Wake up people, there is a lot of things out there that can kill. Go after them too!!!!!!

True. Nothing I can do about people in cars. Unfortunately, car manufacturers need to step up to the plate and produce more eco-friendly cars and people need to be careful of modifications they make to their vehicles.
However, my point was that there is a law of 25 feet from public entrances...THAT's my beef, not the fact that people smoke.
Everyone is welcome to their own choices. I choose not to smoke and don't want to be hit with it the second I walk out of a store.

Fair enough! How about stop complaining to everyone and go tell Wal-Mart or whoever to go move their butt buckets 25 feet away from their doors. To tell you the truth, your fighting a losing battle because 85% of the world smoke and it won't ever change. I figure when God is ready to take me or anybody else, he will wether you smoke or not.

Leeann said...

That's where you're wrong. I can complain all I want. It's my blog. You don't like it...don't read it.

Leeann said...

And FYI...get your facts straight...it's actually only 30% of the world that smokes...men slightly more than women.

Wow I haven't read your blog in a long time and I don't think I have ever commented, but I noticed what people were saying at mom was at a chemo one day and a nurse told her that if they eliminated all tobacco, whether it's smoking or chewing, that 95% of cancers would be eliminated. Isn't that unbelievable and I think it says alot. Plus Mom has never smoked a day in her life but was exposed as a child to second hand smoke everyday with her parents and she is now battling a terminal cancer that has spread throughout her body, so whether or not it has effected this person yet who's to say it won't cause it took 47 years to affect my mom.

Yes, you are right, it is your blog and you have every right to complain. You are also right that if I don't like it I don't have to read it. It's also my right to smoke so I guess I will in your eyes continue my slow suicide and you all can continue complaining about something you can't do about.
I'm done!!!!!!

LOL Calm Down. Mom.

So you know how to google!
So can i! yaY for me!
So i decided to google the biggest killer in the U.S....and the verdict is....Heart Disease!
Heart disease is cause from poor eating habits, and lack of exercise. I read and read and read and couldnt find anything about secondhand smoke. So instead of attacking smokers you should be attacking people in McDonalds drive thru.
My point is; there are many things in this world that are going to kill us, some faster than other. I dont think its right to target smokers and smokers only! You should worry about "saving" your kids from things you have control of. Smokers are not one of them! The butt bucket is in front of the Wal-Mart door, so that's where people are going to finish there cigarette. Whether thay finsi there or away from the door, people are going to walk past you and get a "wiff" of the smoke. It stays in the air for a total or 3 seconds. I dont believe thats long enough to kill our nation.
And i dont think its ver "family" like for Britney to blame her own flesh and blood for ther mothers condition. And can the doctors prove that it was secondhand smoke from 47 years ago that made her sick? Chances are a big NO. Thats something they cant prove cause she's been exposed to alot of different killers other than second hand smoke in 47 years.
If you guys are worried so much about cancer and deadly diseases you better pack up your bags and move out of Utah. Cause Magcore is just right down the road and its the biggest pollutent in the U.S.

and another thing, i love how you say in your blog, "I wish other people would stop and think about how their actions, affect those around them."
Do you ever step back and think about how your blog affects other people. Yes you have a right to your opinion, but remember this goes on the internet for all to see, and you may offend someone! And saying that its "crap," who are you to judge! Everyone has there habits, and just cause its not something you do, it doesnt make it crap! They also say drinking can cause cancer, so i guess were all screwed cause i know you have dranken in your life, and everyone else that has commented!

Again, it's my blog. I don't care if I offend someone. These are my personal opinions. And yes, I have drank, but I don't anymore. I don't continue to compound what poor lifetstyle choices I have made in the past.
It doesn't matter. Spend your time looking at the truely important posts...those of your grandkids and nieces and nephews, instead of tryin to debate me on something that we will never agree on.
